This week the Warhols practiced drawing from observation. They looked at proportion and scale as well as how to use their lines to effectively portray the subject matter. We painted using watercolours for additional practice manipulating this medium to achieve depth while still also giving a feeling of lightness and fluidity.

For Father’s Day this year the Picassos were challenged to create portrait of dad but using only coloured paper, scissors and glue! No pencils, no paint! 😳 This was soooo much fun! They went to town cutting shapes and I have to say I just love the results! Happy Father’s Day! In our last class we talked about whales! The intention of this project was to engage the imagination. What floats on the surface of the ocean? How big is the whale compared to the vessel? Of course they also got some hard facts to work with so we took on a short documentary on different types of whales... they learned some pretty cool facts and of course of things we were familiar with from before. This piece also gave them the opportunity to play with creating tints and shades as the water appears to get lighter as it gets closer to the surface. Mister Seahorse is a warm and charming story about a Daddy Seahorse who looks after Mrs's Seahorses eggs until they are ready to hatch and then gives birth to them! As he drifts through the sea, he meets all sorts of other male fish who also look after their young until they hatch. This is a wonderfully positive tale for fathers everywhere. I quite LOVED the odd fish father's role subject of the book. It's so cool to teach kids things they wouldn't normally be exposed to in such a surprising and not obviously educational way. It makes it such a pleasure to learn then learning becomes natural!! WE NEED MORE BOOKS LIKE THIS! Totally recommend for home libraries!! I didn’t even have to draw a parallel to how our daddies help mummy take care of us... they volunteered that all on their own! Anyway, for our art we drew our Seahorse on painted paper and cut him out. The children created Watercolour backgrounds in the style of Eric Carle so they used light wavy lines to mimic the ocean currents. They stuck Mr. Seahorse down and decorated him as well. Happt Father’s Day! For Indian Arrival Day this year the Picassos and I talked about why the Indians came to Trinidad and what that entailed. Oue art piece focuses on an Indian woman working in the cane fields. They had to focus on texture here and of course the challenge was to draw and paint the human form. I think they did a terrific job! To commemorate Indian Arrival Day this year my Warhols are taking a look at the living conditions of those who came to work the sugarcane fields. They are supposed to gather a bit of info on this topic but I furnished them with a few pics so they could get a visual on where the inspiration for our piece was derived. They are using on acrylics on paper. Take a look at our process and how they’ve turned out. The Doodlebugs painted the Fatel Razack to commemorate Indian Arrival Day. We talked about how many different types of people make up our beautiful rainbow nation... and why and how we all came to live in Trinidad. They looked at pictures of the real Fatel Razack and then we got down to painting the ocean, sky and the boat on top! They are painting this ship from a different perspective though... that means we are looking at it from a different point! Take a look at our process and our paintings :) This year the Picassos made a lovely little card but because I know they sometimes do these things at school I wanted to include an element that was unique to art Class. They used a material called masking fluid to block out areas for their designs and then painted using liquid watercolors. Of course they wrote on the inside and for my Saturday class I even got most of them to create a logo at the back for an extra bit of creative fun! Happy Mother’s Day! My Doodlebugs created some sweet little cards this year and although they look simple your darlings had to work really hard to make them! Basket weaving is hard y’all!! Take a look as they find their rythmn and a very special Happy Mother’s Day to you all! This precious lesson focuses on a basic line drawing, painting and creating the illusion of space while telling the encouraging story of Number One Sam by Greg Pizzoli. The moral of this children’s book is a positive and uplifting one for young children: winning isn’t everything! They will finish putting all the pieces together and painting the background in an upcoming class! update: Our Number 1 Sam pieces are all done and they are as adorable as ever... even if Sam mostly looks like a mouse! 😆🤷🏻♀️ |
Welcome!
Be a fly on the wall in our art room! Take a look at what we do, how we do it and the smiles that I get to see week after week :) Archives
